“I’m constantly challenged. Every form, every image has its balance points…”

Jeffrey Van Maren works with passion toward a synergy of form, color and light. First, an image is fractured into planes. Then, using a dynamic and highly spontaneous working method he crafts an exciting image, which hovers between recognition and abstraction.

A painter and watercolorist for many years, he studied extensively under his mentor, the late Bruce McGrew. In 1995 he originated and began to develop a new form of expression, which he calls “dimensional paper collage.”

Mr. Van Maren describes it as “a three-dimensional paper space.” “The form of collage which I’ve developed has highly sculptural elements,” he says. “I’m constantly challenged. Every form, every image has its balance points. It has its dynamic tensions of form and color. I try to find those points and draw them out.”
